Method & Measure
Method for your processes. Measure for your numbers.
Somewhere in your business there’s a process held together by a spreadsheet everyone’s afraid to touch.
The life of one spreadsheet
Three years making data and reporting trustworthy, in places that can’t afford wrong numbers.
A local authority’s children’s services, then private healthcare — databases, dashboards, and the workbooks that held them together.
Sales before software: trained to hear what’s needed, not to sell what’s biggest.
Start to finish
How an engagement runs.
Five stops, start to finish — tap a stop, or swipe the card.
The offering
What Marc does.
Five services, covering everything between taking work in and reading the numbers out. Most engagements start with the audit; none of them depends on it.
Spreadsheet & process audit
Map the process end to end before anything gets rebuilt.
from £180
Spreadsheet-to-app rebuild
The workbook's job, done properly — validated, shared, audited.
from £850
Many spreadsheets, one app
Overlapping workbooks merged into one source of truth.
from £1,900
Reporting & dashboards
The month-end numbers live on a screen, not rebuilt by hand.
from £950
Data cleanup & automation
The copying and chasing between systems, done on a schedule.
from £450
Before and after
What actually changes.
The useful logic in your workbook survives. The scaffolding people built around it to keep it upright is what goes.
This month
£18,240
Overdue
£2,310
Drag the divider — same order, same total, different morning.
Six versions of the workbook one controlled set of records.
I inventory the copies, map the overlaps and find the real source of truth — with a retirement date for every sheet it replaces.
Updates copied between sheets and inboxes statuses anyone can see.
I turn the informal handoffs into explicit owners: what's happened, what's waiting, and whose turn it is.
A rebuild everyone's afraid to start a switchover on a date you picked.
I prototype the shape early and run the new system alongside the old one until the outputs already match.
The numbers
Three numbers to start from.
No “book a call to find out”. And the audit fee comes off the build if you go ahead — you don’t pay twice for working out what to do.
- Start with an audit
- from £180
- Both audit sizes are fixed-fee, and the written report is yours whatever you do next.
- A working app
- £1,600
- One process rebuilt properly — forms, roles, reporting, audit trail.
- Keep it running
- from £59/mo
- Optional. Every build hands over complete either way.
Every price, and an estimatorHad the audit already? £180 comes off.
Who's behind it
Who you’d be dealing with.
Marc, start to finish: the person who audits your process is the person who builds the app and answers the phone afterwards. Every engagement opens with an audit, because working out what’s actually needed comes before building any of it.
The practice stays small on purpose, and the tools are deliberately boring, because boring is what’s still running in five years.
Asked every time
Straight answers.
- Our spreadsheet is a mess. Is that a problem?
- It's the normal case, and I've unpicked plenty of them. Messy workbooks are usually messy because the business grew around them — that history is useful, and the audit is designed to read it rather than judge it.
- What if we only want the audit?
- That's a complete engagement in itself. You get the written report and the costed options, and the report stands on its own — it's yours whatever you decide to do next.
- Can our team keep using Excel for some things?
- Yes — and they should. Excel is excellent at one-off analysis. The rebuild targets the workbook being used as a shared database, which is the job spreadsheets are worst at. Every app I build exports clean CSV back to Excel.
- How disruptive is the switchover?
- The app runs alongside the spreadsheet until you're confident, and I migrate your existing data in as part of the build — including the historic rows. Cutover is planned as a morning's work, not a month of parallel running.
- Who owns the finished app?
- You do — the code, the data and the hosting account. The rest of the procurement answers are under Security and ownership.
- Where does our data live?
- Wherever you choose to run it: your own server, hosting I run for you, or a box in your building. Security and ownership has the detail.

Tell Marc about the process — or just the spreadsheet.
Two sentences is plenty to start. If it’s easier, email marc@methodandmeasure.co.uk — and if you’d rather show than tell, Marc will sign an NDA before you send anything.
